As an essential part of its mission, AIC Kijabe Hospital is committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with both patients and employees. The Chaplaincy Department personnel provide spiritual care for patients, families and staff. Using a variety of creative methods, the four chaplains, assisted by volunteers, invite people to experience the healing word of the Gospel. In addition to daily devotions and personal evangelism, the presence of Jesus is made manifest through drama presentations, singing and Christian videos, available in English and several indigenous languages.

Throughout the year, retreats, Bible studies, and fellowship group meetings allow staff to re-energize and reflect on their work while deepening their commitment to living the Gospel through spiritual ministry in the health care setting.

Some of the specific activities of the Chaplaincy team include bedside evangelism for inpatients, daily devotions for outpatients and monthly outreach programs to rural dispensaries. Physicians, department heads and senior staff gather in the hospital chapel for devotions each Monday morning and all employees are encouraged to attend the Wednesday morning worship.

Chaplain Agnes Katindi comments, “the work of holistic ministry is tough and challenging, but the Lord has been good and encouraging through His word.”
